Hurricane Irene

As an aside, whenever I hear the name Irene, I think of the "Hello Eileen" song from when I was a teenager.  If you want, you can hum the song to yourself as you read this post, because its stuck in my head now.

Hurrican Irene was very anti-climatic for me.  I didn't like in the evacuation zone of New York city, because although I live on an island, I also live on a hill, so we were above the flood danger zone.  And I live in the Fordham dorms, and we have a back-up generator for if the power goes out.

On Friday, I got an email from Fordham telling me that anyone on campus over the weekend should stay inside all weekend, so we would be safe.
It did rain a little.  I think most of the rain came down Saturday night when I was asleep.  But most of the time, it wasn't raining and the wind wasn't blowing.  But, we still couldn't leave the building, because sudden gusts of 40+ mph wind were possible.

So, I know that parts of New York City flooded, and the trains were down for a while.  But for me it was not any worse than a thunderstorm.
